Academic Decathlon
Advisors: Mr. Hayes |
The Academic Decathlon team is a nine-member team that competes in ten different academic categories ranging from art history to anatomy, and music to economics. They meet weekly studying a different thematic unit each year in preparation for the state championships on the UCONN campus in March. |

Anime Club Advisor: Mrs. Fish |
Students interested in the pursuit of Japanese style artistic endeavors meet in room 107 on most Tuesdays from 2:15 – 3:30. Any and every art media, including but not limited to Manga drawing, reading and writing, amigurumi (plush crochet), and cosplay (character costume making) can be explored. Group Discussions and personalized critiques can help students prepare a portfolio for college application. Our main goal is to be creative and have fun together! |

The Culinary Club’s purpose is to expand leadership potential and develop life skills necessary in families, communities and the workplace. The culinary club prepares food as a service for school and community activities including open houses, meetings, and special events. Their goal is learning and growing through service to others. |

Drama Club / Thespian Society

The Drama Club is a group of students who participate in two major performances each year. The fall show is traditionally a play and the spring show is a musical. Students have the opportunity to act, sing, dance, work on sets, props, lights, sound, makeup, costumes and the business side of the theater. The shows are cast by audition and other positions are selected by signing up to work on the different aspects of theater.
Thespian Troupe #3083 is an international society for students of the theater. To be inducted a student must have worked on at least two different productions and have participated in two different aspects of theater. Numerous awards can be achieved after induction. |

The Environmental Club is a group of students that will work towards improving the environment, ending waste and helping to clean up our corner of the planet. Students will meet to discuss and implement ways to recycle and save energy. The main focus is to teach our community the dangers of global warming and the importance of conservation. Let’s help Montville High School go green! | |

FBLA is made up of students who are interested in business or business related fields. Their mission is to encourage and promote a partnership with local businesses while giving MHS students hands on experience in the field. The organization has attended numerous leadership conferences and state competitions as well as made a presence at Career Expos and Chamber of Commerce meetings. The club has served the community by raising money for March of Dimes, giving Christmas gifts to less fortunate children, participating in Read across America, and offering free baby sitting services to faculty. This year members hope to attend the National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. | |

The Montville High School Gay/Straight Alliance is dedicated to promoting equal opportunity and treatment for the entire school population. They are committed to the practices of tolerance and diversity among all peoples. This year, the MHS-GSA is networking with area high school GSAs and we will participate in the annual True Colors Conference. Membership is open to all students and staff at MHS. Parent and community participation is also welcome. |

This group produces a literary magazine that encourages writing and drawing from all students and faculty. Students organize, arrange and design and the magazine. Images has been recognized and ranked “Excellent” by the National Council of teachers for the past three years.

The International Club at MHS strives to foster understanding of different cultures. It is a great opportunity for students to share their customs and perspectives. The students work together to build friendships, understanding and respect. The club also participates in community service activities. Membership is open to all students at MHS. | |

Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership skills. Open to all students who want to improve our school and community. |

Marching Band Advisor: Mr. Sindorf |
The marching band is a group in which wind players, percussionists and color guard members come together to create a field show during the fall season of the school year. Students perform their show during half time at home football games and marching band competitions throughout the state. The MHS Marching Band is also the public face of the music department, performing in community parades throughout the year. |

Math Team Advisor: Mr. Kelly |
The math team at MHS competes against 12 other schools in New London County. Students have an opportunity to compete individually at each meet by participating in three out of five rounds and they compete together in a final round called a team round. In April trophies are given to the top 3 schools and five individual trophies are given to the top 5 scorers in the league. Schools that finish in the upper half of their league go on to compete at the state meet. |

The Montville chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes those students who have excelled in academics, leadership, character and service. Juniors and seniors who have been selected for the NHS are inducted in a ceremony each May. The NHS strives to create a positive school environment and to promote school spirit by organizing service projects, providing peer tutoring, assisting members of the school faculty, and assuming leadership roles in our school community. | |

The Outing Club takes trips and plans activities for the outdoors. All students are welcome regardless of skill level. Skiing is the most popular activity and the club participates in approximately 3-4 ski trips a year. |

The Peer Mediation Team is composed of a dedicated group of student volunteers who are committed to helping reduce the frequency and severity of conflicts which arise between students at MHS. The mediators have been thoroughly trained in a three day workshop. The mediators skillfully guide their disputing peers through a process involving self-reflection, active listening, risk taking and compromise to reach an agreement in which both parties sign a contract to uphold. | |

The Montville High School Rifle Club was formed to teach firearms safety and train students in the Olympic sport of competitive rifle marksmanship. The club meets twice weekly at the Quaker Hill Rod and Gun Club and competes against other schools in a statewide league. |

The goal of the French Honor Society is to provide an opportunity to recognize outstanding scholarship in the study of French language. Membership provides a vehicle for focusing activities around French language and literature. |

Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica Advisor: Mrs. Clifford |
The goal of the Spanish Honor Society is to recognize high student achievement in Spanish and to promote a continuity of interest in Hispanic Studies. A regularly enrolled student must maintain an honor average in the study of Spanish for a minimum of three semesters and continue until graduation. |

TSA is the only student organization devoted exclusively to the needs of technology and is open to all interested students who have had or are taking any technology courses. Students apply their knowledge develop leadership skills while they participate in TE experiences, State National Competitions and School Community service projects. | |

Winter Guard Advisor:Mr. Sindorf |
The Winter Guard is an extension of the marching band season for color guard members. Students learn a choreographed show incorporating dance, flag and weapon work and compete throughout the winter season of the school year. |

The "Write" Club meets weekly on Thursdays to write, read, and share writing of anyone interested. Writing styles can include poems, stories, raps, songs, slam poems, etc. Eventual performance and competition of slam poetry is a goal of the group, although participants are not required to perform. | |

The yearbook club provides students with an opportunity to get involved with the editing and layout of the yearbook. Students learn photography, layout, advertising and the publishing skills associated with desktop publishing and graphic design. This club is open to all students. | |

The YES Club is designed for students who are interested in learning about what teachers do. Club members go on field trips to colleges, universities, and other schools, and participate in the statewide Future Educators of America convention and inter-district pod discussions about current educational issues. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet other prospective teachers, learn about teaching and open doors in the profession. | |
