“Reading and writing are life long habits of mind. As members of the Montville High School English Department, we believe that it is our responsibility to expand, develop, and support the creativity and critical voice of each individual student.”

 

The requirements for graduation include:

Freshman English    1 credit
Sophomore English  1 credit
Junior English   1 credit
Senior English   1 credit

All students will take a full year English course in order to get credit toward graduation.


Other full year courses are:

AP English 1 credit
AP/ECE English 1 credit
American Studies 1 credit
ECE American Studies 1 credit
Maritime Studies 1 credit

Elective courses offered, but do not count for English credit toward graduation.
Speech Communication – this course is required for College Career Pathways students.
Creative Writing Poetry – this course may be taken more than once with the approval of the instructor.
Creative Writing Fiction – this course may be taken more than once with the approval of the instructor.
Journalism – this course may be taken more than once with the approval of the instructors.
SAT Prep– this course is designed to help students improve their scores on the SAT Critical Reading section.
